It is a type of aircraft composed of aluminum tubes, which provide its structural rigidity, and a sail made of fabrics, which functions as a surface that undergoes aerodynamic forces, providing asa delta support in the air. The origin of this name, asa delta, was given by the similarity to the Greek letter delta, that has a triangle form, like the aircraft wing format.
 

Our city is among the best places in the world for this flight practice. Take offs are from Bonita Stone ramp, located in Tijuca National Park, at a height of 520 meters. Flights hang over Tijuca Forest and the sea, landing on Pepino Beach sands, in São Conrado.
 

Flights last from 6 to 8 minutes. For tandem flight, no experience is required, but Brazilian Free Flight Association requires that passenger weight doesn't exceed 115kg.
 

By the end of the sixth century, Chinese people built giant kites with enough aerodynamics to support an 80kg person weight. It was only a matter of time before someone decide to simply remove the lines and see what happend.
 

German Otto Lilienthal is considered the pioneer. Since 1.871, he dedicated his life to gliders construction, that he himself tested on a hill built by him and his team, close to Berlin.
 

American Francis Rogallo participated in a NASA pioneering program that wanted to create a directional parachute. From his studies, Rogallo created an aircraft that had a metal structure supported on a tricycle.

Australians John Dickenson, Bill Moyes and Bill Bennett were the forerunners of asa delta in Australia, in 1.969.

​

In Brazil, Luis Claudio Mattos is considered the forerunner. In addition to being asa delta world team champions in 1.999, we continue to be one of the world most technical and practicing countries.
 

The main asa delta events and championships are listed on the Aviation International Federation (FAI) calendar.

A LITTLE OF ASA DELTA HISTORY IN THE WORLD

In the 15th century, Leonardo Da Vinci developed several drafts on aviation, from the anatomical study of birds wings. This was probably the beginning of modern aviation history.
 

Since then, there have been several evolutions and improvements until we reach the most different aircraft and the asa delta as we know it today.
 

In Brazil, the first asa delta flight happened in July 1.974, when a French pilot flew from Corcovado top, in Rio de Janeiro. The event caught attention, and some brave young people began to learn the flying art.
 

Today, asa delta has evolved a lot. Modern equipment designed by aeronautical engineers brings more safety and performance to new practitioners.

HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR ASA DELTA TANDEM FLIGHT IN RIO DE JANEIRO

We have daily departures to Asa Delta double flight and you can choose the best date for you.

​

After completing, you will be directed to payment page and must pay the amount of R$150,00  per person (the amount of transportation will be included on the total, in the cases with transportation option).

Please read and agree to our terms and conditions, then click SUBMIT. Reservation must be paid by credit card (PayPal) or by account deposit (only for people who have a Brazilian account). The rest of the amount must be paid in cash, directly to the responsible guide at the tour beginning. We usually need at least 48 hours notice to schedule this tour. If the chosen date does not appear on our reservation calendar, send us an email requesting availability.

If you wish to pay full amount in advance, we can send you an invoice via PayPal. Payment must

be made no later than 72 hours before the tour date.

Every transaction will be charged with a 7% due to Paypal fee.

We do not operate this tour during Carnival season, on holidays sundays, December 25th,

December 31st and January 1st.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Is there room to leave bags and backpacks?

Yes, your belongings will remain in the pilot´s car during the flight.
 

Is it possible to pay the rest with credit card on the flight time?

It's not possible.
 

What happens if the day is not good for flying?

You will be informed the night before or on the morning of the flight and may reschedule or receive your reservation back. We recommend scheduling for the first day of your trip, because if weather conditions don't allow you to fly, you will still have time to make the flight.

What is the minimum age to fly?

16 years. However, young people of 16 or 17 years old must be accompanied by the

responsible.

​

What is the weight limit?

Up to 115Kg (253 lbs), depending on weather conditions on the flight day. Evaluation will be done by the instructor and if it is not possible, we have paragliding option.

Can I Take a Go Pro Camera?

Yes, it must be attached to you somehow.

Do you offer transfer service?

Yes.

Pre flight recommendations:

Wind conditions should always be checked before scheduling confirmation. It takes at least 40 minutes to get there from Copacabana. Carry a valid ID, because by signing the terms and conditions in São Conrado Free Flight Club, no copies will be accepted.
